Kolongo Ministires seeks to glorify Christ, build His kingdom, and make Him known to the people of western Central African Republic and the surrounding area.

We do this by building and growing relationships, and providing structural support of medical, educational, evangelistic, and developmental ministries.

Kolongo Ministries is not simply a humanitarian organization.

We purposefully seek to support work and drive accountability with ministries that are effectively serving people in Jesus’ name: spreading His Word, and strengthening His Church.

To do this we seek to partner with like-minded groups who align with our statement of faith.

Kolongo Ministries focuses on partnering with ministries in remote areas of Western Central African Republic (CAR) where they have extremely poor living conditions and limited access to basic services:

▶ Infrastructure is woefully inadequate
▶ Gender-based violence is widespread
▶ The social fabric has been eroded.

As of 2025 climate changes, including heavy flooding, along with armed clashes, and inter-communal conflicts, increases trauma, displacement, and exasperate the existing problems.

▶ The bulk of the population is displaced
▶ Gender based violence continues to increase
▶ The infrastructure continues to crumble
▶ Education is very poor, with 7 out of 10 children uneducated.
▶ Armed conflicts continue

Within this difficult context, God has used His Church to be

a beacon of hope, a moral voice, a vital help, and a sustaining force to communities in Central African Republic (CAR).

The Christian Church is an invaluable pillar of strength, encouragement and help. Evangelical churches and missions share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live out that gospel in practical ways: providing medical, educational, and developmental resources to individuals and communities.

EXAMPLE: the Evangelical Baptist Church (EEB) has a 180-bed referral hospital in the western border town of Gamboula. In addition they operate eight primary health care centers spread out over a 150-mile radius.  Associated with the hospital is the EEB’s nursing school. Their graduates staff hospitals, health centers, and NGO activities throughout the country.

Challenges for the Church

Cost and resources

Practical Christian ministries can  be financially costly: Running a hospital or a nursing school, sending people for specialty training so they can return to contribute to the work, and helping in other aspects of development all take a lot of supplies and funds.

Unfortunately, there are few resources available within CAR, and ministries continue to rely on outside funding to keep the work strong, move existing ministries forward, and explore new avenues of ministry.

Encouragement

Beyond needing resources for the ministry activities themselves, our brothers and sisters in that part of the world also need our encouragement; they need to know that they are not working alone in these difficult circumstances.  In turn, as we share in ministry together, those of us in the US need their faithful example to challenge and inspire us.

Our Mission

Providing prayer & resources

Kolongo Ministries helps encourage and support like-minded Christian ministries in CAR through prayer and serving as a channel for resources.

Providing oversite, help, & advocacy

We also work to maintain a personal connection to ministries we support and provide appropriate oversight by making regular trips to Africa as well as seeking to be a strong advocate and helper from the US side of the ocean.

How can you join in our ministry?

Going forward, Kolongo Ministries seeks others who will commit with us to pray for God’s work in CAR, who have fresh vision and ideas, and who would be able to help with some of the practical logistics involved in carrying out our mission.

Why the name Kolongo?

The Kolongo, or Borassus Palm, is native to CAR where it is a respected and protected. Though it stands tall and slender it bends in the wind but doesn’t fall. With leaves only at its top, it is not a shade tree; there is light all around it.

  • It produces fruit for people to eat
  • Its wood is so tough termites cannot destroy it, so it is useful for fence posts and house beams.
  • You can get salt from it; which gives flavor and preserves.
So it is with the Gospel that we are called to share.
  • As the Lord speaks into hearts and lives kingdom fruit that lasts is produced (John 15:16).
  • We are called to work in such a way that we store up treasure in heaven where moths and rust (and termites) cannot destroy (Matt. 6:20).
  • We are challenged to build on the foundational rock of God’s Word, putting that word into practice in our lives so that what is built is strong and will withstand waves of opposition and challenges (Matt. 7:24-25).
  • And we are called to be salt and light in this world (Matt. 5:13-16).

Thus the Kolongo tree is a fitting symbol for the heart and goals of the ministry.
